This project had two streams both addressing critical workforce shortages in the current NDIS rollout.

Stream 1, worked with deaf people, interpreters and service providers to define potential employment opportunities available to support workers holding Certificate IV in Auslan Skills. The end result is a publicly available paper titled "Employment Scope for Auslan users under the NDIS".

Stream 2, created an online guided RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process for people who already have Auslan skills that have not been formally recognised. The end result is an online guided RPL tool.

Greystanes Disability Services : Transition Project Officer and IT hardware

Greystanes engaged two Project Officers, job-share, to deliver a training program to our direct support staff using “Every Moment Has Potential: Person Centred Active Support Online Learning Resource” www.activesupportresource.net.au. This comprehensive resource was developed by Greystanes in partnership with La Trobe University. The Project Officers also audited the IT needs of staff and purchased IT training equipment to ensure that all staff has access to the resource.

During the course of this project, the free, online resource was widely promoted in the sector and web statistic indicates that it continues to be widely used.

Currajong Disability Services Inc : Person Centred approaches to behaviour management training

Using a joint agency approach a project team made up of staff from Currajong Disability Services Inc and Westhaven Association mapped training needs of front-line disability workers of both organisations.

Project team assessed the suitability of specialist training providers to deliver competency based training events and appointed providers as appropriate.

A small group of Leaders undertook Certificate IV Workplace Assessment & Training to build capacity to on-train interagency staff teams.

Westhaven Behaviour Specialists facilitated access to existing resources and restricted practice panel protocols acting as lead agency and mentor to staff involved with the project.

Competency based training sessions were undertaken based on client support needs and staff training gaps.

Regular networking sessions were held through attendance at cross-agency training sessions.

A positive behaviour support policy and practice manual targeted to smaller organisations was developed as a new resource.
